Side note for grinding reps that work with tabards (most of the ones from home cities up til Cataclysm), the Botanica dungeon (normal difficulty, so you can reset it) is a solid place for rep-grinding.3.5K rep per run, with a portal at the end of the dungeon to teleport back out to the entrance. There's a few others that come purely from achievements, like "What a Long, Strange Journey It's Been," as well as from random world encounters and puzzles (Riddler's Mind-Worm, Lucid Nightmare, Llothien Prowler, Sinrunner Blanchy, Wildseed Cradle, etc). Only pre-Wrath raid I can think of that drops a mount from a boss is the Ashes of A'lar mount in Tempest Keep (abysmally low drop-rate btw). Pretty much every raid from Wrath of the Lich King and after has at least one mount that drops from a boss, and most have one from the meta-achievement for the raid. There are several that can be gotten from various professions: 1 from Blacksmithing (Steelbound Devourer), 3+ from Tailoring (various flying carpets), 5 from Jewelcrafting (Jade, Ruby, Sapphire, Sunstone, and Jeweled Onyx panthers), 1 from Alchemy (Sandstone Drake), 6 from Engineering (2 flying machines, a rocket, a motorcycle, Sky Golem, and the Mecha-Mogul mk2), and I think Leatherworking can make one or two now as well. There's a basically guaranteed mount drop in the Culling of Stratholme Heroic dungeon (the Bronze Drake). Silvermoon for Blood Elves, Ironforge for Dwarves, etc). There are multiple mounts per city that you can get, provided you have the reputation there (or it's your racial home city i.e. You can split it up across multiple characters to make it go slightly faster if you want. There are two (three including the meta) out of heroic firelands, and two (three including the meta) out of heroic throne of thunder, plus Nalak at the entrance. There are five mounts (sort of) out of heroic Dragon Soul (handmaiden, harbinger, 12-b, awake the drakes meta, and the raid meta), so that's a good one to run every week. Invincible (ICC) and Mimiron's Head (Ulduar) are two of the more rare but desirable mounts.
There are a lot of weekly lockout mounts and it's very easy to either burn out or get bored. I'd strongly suggest picking a handful of raid mounts you really like and starting with those. Yes the faction mounts can be plain, but there are so many it's worth it when you're chasing the collector's achievement. And the ones you can't, buy their tabard and farm cata dungeons (stonecore and vortex pinnacle both have 1% mounts if you want to chain run something). You might already be able to buy many of them. Horde / Alliance have like 5 or 7 each faction. If you're going for quantity, I'd start with faction reputation mounts.
